In the case of a Traffic Intersection Simulation we,
- Describe the size and shape of the intersection
- Define the traffic signal phasing
- Define the drive paths likely to be taken
- Define the average volumes and traffic distribution to be expected
- and then let the vehicles interact with each other, within the constraints
of the
defined traffic rules and without any further interference from our side.

This helps immensely in replicating real life situations, where the system is defined
and each individual interacts with the rest of the traffic on a real time basis,
rather than in a predeterminate fashion.
By introducing variables such as obstructions (eg: construction work) in the paths,
or changing the traffic volumes from different directions, or experimenting with
the signal phasing, the efficiency and safety of traffic flow at the intersection
can be enhanced.
